DNutz fo the Neblina Family

August 25th, 2011

DJ ResI was just hit with this news today by the only and only brother from another Ricardo from the Neblina family (the same label that Fear & Loathing: Riding w/ DJ Resident mix project posted up): Dave has had a terrible accident while on vacation and has been paralyzed from the shoulders down. It appears that recovery is going to be long and the bills are going to be rough as well, and his lovely wife is also expecting. So fans/followers please reach out and lend a little hand by telling yours about the upcoming “David Jeffers 5k Run/Walk for Recovery”, to be held on September 24, 2011 at Enloe High School in Raleigh, NC.

Follow the link below and please tell you folks…

Respect…

October 31st, 2010

As a DJ and an older head in the game I have to say it’s a shame that many in the next generation are slacking in recognizing those who paved the way…all I can say about JMJ is, respect brother, respect. RIP. Props to Nasty Nes for emailing the image…proudly posted…

Still Committed…

September 14th, 2010

Yes it’s been a while, longer than I expected, but I’m still coming with some fresh shit for the fall…a fitting time since it is my favorite part of the year, so expect some mixes up in the coming weeks. Work has been brutal on ya boy timewise, but I’ve been marinating on things and keeping the ears sharp and to the street for the hot joints. I’ll start off things with a couple of catch up mixes of some of the best joints popping since Feb when I made the transition. Stay tuned cause it’s comin’ baby…

More Hiphop Family Passes…

April 28th, 2010

DJ Res Well, more of the flock is disappearing. I just learned of DJ Hideo’s passing this past weekend. While I only met him once at a conference in CA, he was a stand up dude and cool to hang with, not to mention a staple of the west coast hip hop scene. Shouts to his family and fans, and to Nasty Nes for the heads up…

More on the Guru Passing…

April 22nd, 2010

DJ Res I can’t say the news doesn’t still have an effect…I’ve been burning nothing but Gangstarr for the past few days and hitting up the youtube for some video refreshment. But as I alluded in the prior post, something is fishy about the “death bed” letter. Who to trust first: Guru’s family. His sister has released a statement about the situation, thanking everyone for the thoughts and shouts, and she also states that Guru was in a coma since February when he first went into the hospital AllHipHop.com’s article. Brother QuestLove from the Roots crew confirms this too. Couple this with the fact that many question Solar’s intentions (and who better to set up than Freddie Foxxx another AllHipHop.com article). Add to this the fact that he was releasing statements supposedly from Guru stating he was on the road to recovery while more reliable sources say he was in a coma. Some elementary school level critical thinking points to BS out of Solar, for real.

There are a few heads I really want to hear from about this, the first one has already stepped up: DJ Premier. As is usual, his statement is real, classy, and positive. Some others include: MOP, Krumbsnatcha, and Big Shug (among many heads who opinions matter to my ass click). Unfortunately this is shaping up to look like a rough patch for Guru and Gang Starr’s legacy, but the truth will shine through.

Shouts to AllHipHop.com and HipHopDX.com for some good coverage. I even saw hits in the NY Times and the UK’s DailyMail; now for some hiphop to make it in those and it not be the vomit inducing ignorant shit that gets pounded over the air on a regular should tell you how real Gang Starr is mutha phukas…nuff said

Damn…RIP GURU, Mr. Keith Elam…

April 20th, 2010

DJ Res It’s yet more minutes since I’ve popped in, but I’m getting ready to pump out some mixes for the masses out there. Shouts to my man Browntree for the love on the comments.

On a very sad note, one that leaves me at a loss for a proper response, I sit at my new job saddened by the news that the legendary Guru has passed away from cancer. Big L, Dilla, JMJ, Roc Raida…another one of a tight knit hiphop family I feel intimately connected to has passed.

I recall visiting D&D Studios during the last days of the era…seeing the place where it all happened, and later getting a chance to vibe with Guru himself during a college radio conference (after the Gangstarr split). I do have a bit of mixed feelings after reading Guru’s parting words. I have never heard Premier say nor have I read any interviews with Preemo saying anything negative about Guru, only love and respect for the man cialis india. I’m sort of taken back that Guru didn’t squash the animosity in his final words since they are the last we will ever hear, but nonetheless, Guru was an important figure. (peep: Incubate Blog’s post of the final letter) It will remain to be seen if this is really the man’s final statement, speculation on the web about it not being is heavy. In any case, peace to him, his family and Preemo.

Show the love while they are here…pump the timeless music!!!

RIP Mr. Elam, Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal…

SHOW 02/24/2010

March 12th, 2010

DJ ResAgain sorry for the late post…it’s sad that this is my last air show with KNC…15 years of continuous love for this thing called hip hop…it’s no joke to dedicate yourself to something for such a long period of time…but such is growth and expanding horizons…this show was not meant to encapsulate all my years at the joint, but to deliver the same flavor I always have: no call in’s (although some wanted to), no stories, no favorite tracks (expect for those in the current rotation that is). Expect this same vibe from me in the future as I continue to deliver the goods here and anywhere else I might get the opportunity to hit the airwaves again…in the meantime, peep these joints below…

  • Joe Scudda – Catch Up (Joe’s back at it with another Statik track, hard brag style here baby)
  • Edgar Allen Floe & J Wheels – Mighty Floe Young F. Nottz, Royce 5′ 9″ (Floe, you are that dude and the collabs on this joint are A+, BIG SHOUTS bro for real täällä)
  • Nottz – Shine So Brite (straight up fire right here…one of my favorite tracks of 2010 so far)
  • Kooley High – Solitude F. Median (the Kooley crew is steady with the heat, shouts to Digitz)
  • RADIx – The Return (if you are sleeping on RADIx, you are likely dead or just wack as hell, Statik is working his magic on this banger as well)
  • Statik Selektah – Do It To Death F. Lil Fame, Havoc, Kool G Rap (Fame, Hav and KGR on a grimy ass track is a recipe for a head nodding riding music baby)
  • Canibus – Only Slaves D.R.E.A.M. (some real ish is being dropped by the Can man…track is hard as you would expect, and the lyrics are something to think about)
  • Gold Chain Military – GCM Meets ALC (all around dope crew track from GCM…real hardcare hip hop is back peoples…)
  • Folk & Stress – New York Ginseng F. GZA (tight indy flavor with help out from the Liquid Swordsman, peep it)

    SHOW 02/17/2010

    February 20th, 2010

DJ ResSorry for the lazy post fans out there, but big things have been taking place on the personal side as I prepare to relocate for a new job. It’s also a sort of sad time as I say goodbye to a 15 year relationship with WKNC and the world famous Underground 88. Until I hopefully get a new spot on the airwaves, you can rest assured that the same indy fueled, hardcore, real hip-hop flavas will continue right here…it’s a love peoples, the very definition of passion and while I move on to big and better things on the employment front, the fine wine that is this hip-hop thing will keep getting better and better…that’s how deep and real it is…nothing is holding me back…in the meantime, peep out these joints…

  • Jern Eye – Cali F. Spank Pops, J-Billion (Jern keeps coming with some real tight music, no exception here)
  • CY The Cynic – The Bad Seed F. Final Outlaw, D Julien (a real fresh joint here, takes my back to the T-Ray/Double X Posse days)
  • Spectac & Amiri – Gone In Sixty Seconds (the Principal is still at it, dedication baby, and real cool tracks, shouts to Spec)
  • TRUTHLiVE – Shoot Me Down (some new comers on my radar, but a very very solid showing, peep it)
  • One – Evil Vs. Evil Rmx (recycling an old sample and putting a fresh twist on it, BIG SHOUTS to my mans One for the continued heat ici!)
  • Marco Polo & Rustee Jux – Rearview (again with a Duckdown collab, MP and Jux link up for the expected result: hot sh*t)
  • Georgia Ann Muldrow & Declaime – Heaven & Hell F. Kool G Rap, Black Milk, LMNO (this effort is the continuation of some of the dopest tracks and collabs I’ve heard in a while, and this joint hit me by surprise, real cool right here, real cool)
  • Diablo Archer – Everyday Hero F. Median, K-Hill, EAF, Dasan Ahanu (the posse track is back in style finally, and this one has a dope ass lineup, extra shouts to Dasan on the hook with the spoken word, keep it coming homie; NC hip-hoppers shine bright on this joint for real)
  • Bekay – Brooklyn Bridge F. Masta Ace (M-Phazes Remix) (another banger off the Hunger Pains remix project, and a very fresh smooth joint here, although I wa the first to hit this sample, just peep the old Neblina message boards and my man Metah)
  • Mykill Miers – We Official F. Prince Po (been a minute since I’ve heard from Miers…and the time has shown itself to be positive, very tight track here with some help from the medicine man)
  • Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
